Michael Gayoso, Jr.
Crawford County Attorney
Originally, sworn into office on January 12, 2009 by the Hon. Judge David F. Brewster. He was re-elected, in a contested race, in November 2012 to a second term in office and was sworn in on January 14, 2013. Gayoso ran unopposed in 2016 and was sworn to his third term in office in January, 2017. Gayoso has argued before the Kansas Supreme Court and Court of Appeals and in 1999 was selected as a member to the National Order of Barristers for his courtroom advocacy skills.
He earned his law degree from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas in 1999 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio.
He is a member of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA), was President of the KBA Criminal Law Section, member of the Crawford County Bar Association (Past President), the Kansas County and District Attorneys Association, and the National District Attorneys Association.
Gayoso is married to Candace Brewster-Gayoso and they have three children.
Reina J. Probert ~ Deputy County Attorney
Probert is responsible for the felony Pittsburg docket handled by Judge Kurtis I. Loy. She handles a wide array of cases including drugs, person and nonperson felonies and sex crimes. She has been practicing law for over 20 years and graduated from Washburn School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.
John D. Gutierrez ~ Assistant County Attorney
Gutierrez is responsible for the felony Pittsburg docket handled by Judge A.J. Wachter and the traffic and misdemeanor dockets. He handles a wide array of cases including drugs, person and nonperson felonies and sex crimes. He has been practicing law for over 23 years and graduated from Washburn School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.
Steve A. Stockard ~ Assistant County Attorney
Stockard is responsible for handling all of the juvenile cases including, truancy, offender and child in need of care cases. He has been practicing law for 20 years and graduated from Washburn School of Law in Topeka, Kansas.
Abby Lehman ~ Office Manager
Abby is the office manager for both the Pittsburg and Girard offices. She organizes office operations and procedures; submits payroll and invoices; controls correspondence; and inventory control. She graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing & Family & Consumer Sciences.
Aimee Barry ~ Victim/Witness Coordinator
Aimee works closely with victims to help them navigate the judicial system and to assist with restitution and compensation claims and support services. She also acts as a liaison between victim, witnesses, law enforcement and the county attorney's office. Aimee is a graduate of East Carolina University with a B.S. in Sports Studies and minor in Exercise Science.
Carma Burns ~ Juvenile Clerk
Carma works on all matters pertaining to the juvenile cases. She works on all truancy, juvenile offender, and child in need of care cases.
Jennifer Ruth ~ Pittsburg Clerk
Jennifer works in the Pittsburg office handling all matters pertaining to misdemeanors, worthless checks and traffic cases. Jennifer has a Bachelor's Degree in Recreational Therapy and a Masters Degree in Sports and Leisure Services from Pittsburg State University.
Troy Bastion ~ Investigator
Troy has been working at the Crawford County Attorney's office since May 2013. He serves subpoenas, locates witnesses, and conducts additional witness interviews for our office. He is a graduate of Pittsburg State University with a BA in Psychology; is a graduate of the federal law enforcement training center and previously worked at the Wyandotte County, KS Sheriff's Department.
